Assistant Pastoral Leader
37 hours a week, 45.8 paid weeks a year
JG6 £32,061 to £34,434 / Part time salary £28,160 to £30,245
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated Assistant Pastoral Leader (APL) to join us on a fixed term basis to work closely with, and support, our Pastoral Leaders.
The post is covering a sabbatical leave, and starts on the 3 September 2026, and will end on the 23 July 2027.
The APL will help our Pastoral Leaders to ensure that each student achieves their academic potential, has good attendance and punctuality, has high standards of personal behaviour, uniform and appearance, is supported in relation to any personal barriers which could limit their success and is protected in situations where other students fail to uphold the school standards.
We welcome applications from those with a non-teaching background or qualified teaching staff (this role does not involve any classroom teaching but does involve close working with young people).
The APL is fully involved in the activities of the relevant pastoral unit. You will assist the Pastoral Leaders in managing the range of pastoral issues of students in the unit including concerns around behaviour, mental wellbeing and engagement.
In addition, you will assist the Pastoral Leaders in keeping accurate records, analysing data and strategic planning of support for students; support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL by attending meetings, liaising with external agencies and communicating risk assessments to colleagues in order to keep students safe and offer support and information to families whose children are vulnerable, disadvantaged or Pupil Premium
We are looking for applicants who have previous experience of:
- working with children
- working as part of a team with good team working skills
- making sound and logical judgments in decision making
- being a proven team player who adds value to the team
- having excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
- having an ability to work under pressure whilst helping others to remain calm and measured
- having resilience and positivity in equal measure
- being able to multi-task and prioritise workload and demonstrating a willingness to learn new skills and to undertake relevant CPD.
